Hard Rock Digital Launches Sportsbook in Virginia
Industry News
27 April 2022
In an exciting move for sports fans, Hard Rock Digital recently launched its Hard Rock Sportsbook app in Virginia. This launch expands Hard Rock's reach into yet another state, providing Virginians with access to a wide range of betting options across major sports through a user-friendly mobile platform. Virginians 21 and over can now place bets, explore same-game parlays, and enjoy new deposit options—all designed to elevate their sports-betting experience. Following the mobile launch, Hard Rock Digital has also planned to open a retail sportsbook at the Bristol Casino, which will be available to visitors by July 2024.
Expanding Sports Betting Options for Virginians
This mobile app launch makes Virginia the latest state in Hard Rock’s digital expansion, following recent launches in Arizona and long-standing operations in New Jersey and Iowa. The app brings a unique twist to betting, offering live betting options that allow fans to place wagers while games are in progress. In addition, it includes engaging features like promotions and a rewards program, all crafted to stand out in Virginia’s increasingly competitive sports-betting market.
The Upcoming Bristol Casino Retail Sportsbook
Scheduled to open this July, the temporary retail sportsbook at Bristol Casino aims to bring an in-person element to Hard Rock's digital betting offerings. Located at the former Bristol Mall, this casino will feature roughly 30,000 square feet of gaming space, equipped with slots, gaming tables, and an in-person sportsbook area. The opening is anticipated to create over 600 jobs, contributing to the local economy and establishing Bristol as a hub for Virginia sports fans. This physical presence will bolster Hard Rock’s online reach, attracting those who prefer the in-person betting experience. Eventually, a full-scale $300 million Hard Rock resort and casino, featuring entertainment venues and multiple dining options, will replace the temporary facility.
Navigating Virginia's Competitive Market
While Hard Rock's entry into Virginia brings exciting opportunities, the sportsbook will face competition from established brands like FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM, which together command over 97% of Virginia’s sports betting market. Despite the dominance of these early entrants, Hard Rock’s mix of in-app features, rewards, and physical presence at the Bristol Casino could help it carve a niche within the local sports-betting scene.
For Virginia sports enthusiasts, this launch adds another layer of accessibility and options, promising an immersive, integrated entertainment experience both online and in-person.
